The setting is the Cascade Mountains in the state of Washington In the 1st chapter, someone is being held captive in an isolated cabin In the 2nd chapter, Megan has discovered that her boyfriend James Cahill is cheating and she heads to her sister's home in Seattle in a snowstorm She doesn't make it there In chapter 3, James Cahill wakes up in the hospital, injured without a memory of what happened I liked the setting of cold, ice, and snow James Cahill was a louse and the women were all full of anger so it was hard for me to root for any of the characters I thought the first half of the book was too long and the plot moved too slowly The last 1/3 of the book was better with all the reveals I love Lisa Jackson's books with Pescoli and Alvarez but this Cahill series is not for me If you like a romantic suspense with lots of drama, give this one a try.I received a copy of this book from a Goodreads giveaway I entered and won back in March We all know what also happened around that time Covid 19 New York went into lockdown and the publisher was not able to get to the books to mail out I only received my copy this past week but I appreciate the publisher keeping up with those who won and following through. James Cahill is the heir to a fortune He’s distanced himself from the family that’s been full of scandals Moving to Washington, to try and make a life on his own When he wakes up in a hospital with no memory of what happened or how he got there, he doesn’t know what is going on Then he’s told his girlfriend, Megan Travers, is missing, whom he can’t remember And another woman shows up claiming to be dating him As his memory slowly returns, he realizes he needs to figure out what happened the night of his accident, and where Megan is I love all of Lisa Jackson’s books And this was another good one This is book three in the Cahill series This one following James It’s a fast paced edge of your seat read It had me drawn in from the start The characters were all written well, and you could feel what they feel I’m pretty good I figuring out what’s going on in book, and this book was no exception Although I didn’t know what was completely happening And when I found out, I was totally surprised But knowing, didn’t take away from the book I recommend this if you enjoy a good mystery. What a puzzle! So many moving pieces and so many characters who seem to all have a different agenda, all wrapped up in this book.A storyline with constant surprises and an ending that would come in and out of focus.I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review. In a twisting, unpredictable new novel of suspense byNew York Times bestselling author Lisa Jackson, an heir to the Cahill fortune discovers just how dangerous, and duplicitous, family can be The Cahills of San Francisco are famous for two things: their vast wealth, and the scandals that surround them Murder, greed, deadly ambitionsome people will do anything to get, and keep, the Cahills' kind of money Not that James Cahill wants any of it He's tried to make his own way, less interested in a future inheritance than in his construction companyand in enjoying the many women taken in by the easy charms of a handsome, soontoberich bad boyPerhaps there've been too many women Waking up in a small hospital in Washington State, bandaged and bruised, James barely recognizes the gorgeous blonde who comes to visit Through the haze of pain and medication, he recalls that she is Sophia, the woman he's been cheating with Gradually memories returnhis girlfriend, Megan, had found out about Sophia Now Megan is missing, her sister, Rebecca, is hounding himand police and reporters are asking questions too James insists he has no idea what happened Yet he can't escape a feeling of dread Meanwhile, in a locked room, a woman waits, trapped, petrified, and desperate She thought she knew who to trust But the betrayal you can't imagineor can't remembermay be the most terrifying weapon of all Mystery and suspense with lots of thrillsLisa Jackson has done it again! She has written a book that had me guessing almost to the very end And even the end had a nice surprise twist The story of Megan Travers’ disappearance brings her sister Rebecca to town and gets James Cahill in all kinds of trouble since he is the prime suspect The setting is idyllic, in a mountain town, with lots of snow The timing is also greatit’s almost Christmas when the book begins, but none of the characters really notices since they are too busy pointing fingers at each other I really liked the character of Detective Rivers since he had some kind of special ability to touch objects and connect with the actions of the person That would be some kind of great party trick! I didn’t like the villains, but I wasn’t supposed to And I thought that James Cahill was kind of shallow and selfserving Anyway, I did enjoy that book and I am delighted that I won it fromKINDLE via a Goodreads giveaway I’m looking forward now to the next book that continues the Cahill saga I was not required to write a positive review The opinions expressed are my own. I won this from Goodreads Having never read anything by Lisa Jackson before, I was excited to try out a new author I was unaware that this was book 3 in a series but my not knowing the plot of the first two books, didn't take away from the story The story was about a missing woman and her rich boyfriend who was the main suspect You soon came to realize that there was a lotgoing on than a missing woman The mystery was your typical police procedural but it had a lot of relationship drama thrown into the plot as well I didn't really understand the kleptomanic policeman story aspect so that seemed a little unnecessary to me All in all it is a nice little mystery to read with quite a few twiats and turns. I have never read anything by Lisa Jackson before, but even though this book is listed as #3 in the Cahill series, it worked as a standalone book. This was a good mystery, with lots of twists and turns, but I took away a star for the obnoxious, immature women that were the cast of characters in this book They were all completely unlikable And I am not a fan of romance novels, and this one was a little heavy on the romance and sex scenes, to the point that some of the language made me roll my eyes.In spite of those detractors from my enjoyment, I did overall really enjoy this book and will be looking forward to reading some additional Lisa Jackson books in the future.* Thanks to Goodreads for providing me with a free ARC in exchange for my honest review. Lisa Jackson has been writing for years and has been best seller not all are perfect and some of her books feel rushed or dated at times. The story starts off with a jaded lover wanting to run away from life Next boyfriend wakes up with no memory and a detective who dislikes him right away The plot is basic and readers will be able to figure out the whole story before the detectives even step foot into the victims house. The characters are flat, typical and boring at times To change things up the author gives the male lead detective a special gift of site that he keeps from his partner Simple questions are never asked drawing out the obvious part of the story.Thank you to Netgalley and Kensington Publishing for the advance copy of Lisa Jackson You Betrayed Me This is the third book in the Cahill series but it can easily be read as a standalone The book focuses primarily on the investigation into the disappearance of Megan Travers after she has a fight with her boyfriend, James Cahill, when she finds out he’s been cheating on her The first half of the book was a bit slow in my opinion and I found the characters to be pretty unlikeable James is an unrepentant cheater and yet woman fall all over themselves to gain his attention It just seemedlike a soap opera with all the relationship drama This book is very well written and has some surprising twists that keep your attention but it just missed the mark for me.
